A large majority of savers with Icesave are breathing a sigh of relief - after being reunited with their deposits before Christmas.
A large majority of UK Icesave customers have now been fully compensated for savings lost when the provider went bust in October.
Figures from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which looks after depositor protection for the government, said that around 200,000 people had been reunited with their savings, as reported by the Press Association. In total, there were 214,713 savers with Icesave in the UK.
The savings provider's website stopped allowing customers to withdraw funds immediately prior to Icesave's parent company Landsbanki entering administration. There followed a wrangle between British and Icelandic authorities over who was going to pay back the savers, this has since been resolved.
Speaking to ITN, Icesave customer Charlie Allen, 24, commented: "It all turned out OK in the end - I got it all back. Initially I could not be 100 percent sure whether the UK government was going to guarantee it. In all fairness, they came out pretty quickly and confirmed that they were going to guarantee it, which was reassuring."
She said she was now looking forward to Christmas after getting her money back. "I was very relieved," she told the news agency. "It was extremely stressful. The process went smoothly and we got the money back about six weeks later. Still, for a while it was frightening."
