In the past it has been difficult to find an ISP (internet service provider) that provides a broadband package compatible for use with Mac computers, with most packages geared towards catering for PCs. However, with the Mac OS’s increasing popularity, this is changing and more and more ISPs are focusing on enhancing the service they offer Mac users.
Although many broadband providers now claim to cater for Mac users, before signing up to a broadband package it is still important to check that the level of support they offer will be sufficient for your needs. For example it is important to check whether the router or modem supplied by the ISP is compatible with Macs. This is important as if the specified modem is not compatible, you will have to find an alternative method of connection and consequently may encounter problems if you need any help with setting up or troubleshooting your broadband connection.
Additionally, the quality of the customer service offered to Mac users varies considerably between providers, with some ISPs now having teams dedicated to providing Mac troubleshooting. Again, prior to committing to a package with an ISP, check to ensure the level of support they offer Mac broadband users is likely to be sufficient.
By ensuring that you are happy with the level of support offered to Mac broadband users by an ISP as well as with the download speeds and limits available in the packages they offer, you should be able to connect your Mac to the internet simply with the confidence that you will have someone to call on if you have any problems.
