Car Insurer Releases 'Unlucky Dates' Research

You're more likely to be a safer driver if you were born on the first of the month, elephant.co.uk has claimed.

Your likelihood of making a car insurance claim seems to be partially determined by your date of birth, a surprising new report claimed today.

Car insurance provider elephant.co.uk said that people born in December are the most likely to be unsafe motorists - while those born on the first of the month are proportionally less likely to have a driving conviction.

The biggest "danger birthdays" of all were found to fall on September 16th, February 29th and December 24th, in that order. Meanwhile, the "luckiest" date was found to be May 31st.

The firm derived its new report from analysis of two million of its car insurance claims. Speeding and traffic offences were cross-referenced against the convicted driver's date of birth.

elephant.co.uk managing director, Brian Martin said, "We thought it would be interesting to see if there was any correlation between the date you were born and the likelihood of having an accident or getting points on your license. It was interesting to see those with more unusual birthdays like February 29th and December 24th featured in the top three of worst drivers - and that some of the safer drivers are those born on the first of the month."

In what is perhaps a tacit admission that the correlation between date of birth and driving convictions is not particularly strong, Mr Martin went on to admit that being born on an "unlucky" date was not used by the car insurance firm as a reason for refusing cover.
