Drivers in the East of England have been revealed to be most at risk of damaged windscreens.
A study of windscreen damage insurance claims from car insurance provider Churchill found that motorists in East Anglia are the most likely to require windscreen replacement or repair services. The company also said today that it believes that the region is such a black spot for window damage due to the area's economy.
East Anglia is dominated by arable farming in fields close to busy driving routes, and Churchill suggested that the heavy machinery required to farm the land in these areas creates debris on the roads which can lead to cracked windscreens, sun roofs or side mirrors.
It's not all bad news for East Anglican drivers though; the AA advises that having glass chipped does not always necessitate replacing the whole windscreen. The breakdown service says damage of up to 40mm can be repaired, depending on where in the screen it is situated. If the damage is right in front of the driver only damage up to 10mm can be repaired - slightly less than the size of a 5p coin.
After East Anglia it was motorists on the roads of the southern, London, central and south-west regions respectively that were most at risk of sustaining damage to their windscreens.
