Home Insurance on The Edge

Have your January sales bargains pushed your contents cover over the edge?

The January sales provide a fantastic opportunity to grab some bargains with everything from clothes, toys and games to the latest electronics and even furniture being reduced. However, if you’ve gone ‘mad’ in the sales this year it’s all the more important to check that your new found goodies are covered by a comprehensive home insurance policy.

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) estimate that around 25% of the UK do not currently cover their belongings with contents insurance, with many seeing it as an unnecessary cost especially during this expensive season.

While home insurance is important throughout the year it really comes into its own during the winter months when the excess of Christmas sees an increase in the value of our personal belongings making us all the more susceptible to the cost of burglary, loss and damage if we are uninsured.

Even if you have building and contents policies in place there is a chance that your festive spending may have left you under-insured. As, even if they were bought at ‘bargain’ prices, your new gadgets may have pushed the value of your home contents up and over the limit protected by your home insurance. For this reason it’s important to re-evaluate your circumstances and check that you are adequately protected for the year ahead.

If you’ve simply been letting your home insurance tick over, agreeing to your policy renewal year in, year out (something that over 20% of us fall fault to) this could provide you with the perfect opportunity to shop around and find a more encompassing policy to protect your home, for less.
